Dwyane Wade confronts child custody dispute during NBA Finals

Many parents in Missouri know that child custody disputes have the potential to culminate at the worst of times. A simple miscommunication between parents or an outright disregard for a custody agreement can lead to litigation over custody and visitation rights. And these issues often don't present themselves conveniently.

Recently, basketball star Dwyane Wade went through such an ordeal. Wade, who is currently playing in the NBA Finals for the Miami Heat, had to file an emergency motion in court after his ex-wife failed to deliver their two boys to Wade in accordance with a custody agreement. The motion asked a judge to suspend the ex-wife's visitation rights.

This dispute comes while Wade is playing in a championship series that could in large part define his career as an athlete. His case illustrates the fact that child custody disputes often demand immediate attention if a parent is to act in the best interest of a child.

According to a news report, police went to Wade's ex-wife's home in Chicago to retrieve the children, who were scheduled to be with Wade in Miami on Father's Day. Following the police visit, the ex-wife was charged with two counts of unlawfully interfering with visitation, two counts of attempted child abduction and one count of resisting arrest.

Wade has had custody of the children since March 2011. His emergency request to the court claims his ex-wife has used their children as "the proverbial pawns in this contentious dissolution of marriage action." The motion goes on to say that the ex-wife's use of her parenting time is harmful to the kids.

Wade eventually hired a private jet to bring his children to Miami, and they were still with him at the time of a news report. His recently finished book is about his custody battle and fatherhood. Sports fans in Missouri with child custody concerns may want to add that book to the reading list.
