Jennifer Garner divorces Ben Affleck after alleged affairs

Divorce is never an easy step to take; however, some couples find in necessary step to take. And just like it is difficult to take the steps to initiate and finalize a divorce, it is also challenging to take steps prior to marriage or during the marriage to prepare for or provide protection in case of a divorce. Including a legal document such as a prenuptial or postnuptial in an high asset marriage could help a couple in many ways.

According to recent reports, after nearly a ten year marriage, it recently was reported that actress Jennifer Garner, known for her roles on the television show "Alias" as well as countless movies including "Juno", "Daredevil" and "Dallas Buyers Club," is leaving Ben Affleck, amid allegations of affairs during the course of their marriage. Affleck is known for his role and writing credit on "Good Will Hunting," as well as the Academy Award winning director of "Argo". This does not come as a surprise to many, as the two have had previous separations before.

The two have amassed considerable wealth in their careers, including owning a $17 million dollar home in Los Angeles's Pacific Palisades, and both are considered among top earners in the field.

It does not appear the breakup is amicable, as various reports include allegations of excessive partying, gambling and affairs by Affleck, which are denied by sources close to Affleck. Regardless, Garner and Affleck will have a long road ahead of them. The two have three young children together, as well as multiple properties throughout the country.

It is a wise decision for any couple about to enter a marriage to consider making a prenuptial agreement. Although the thought of discussing the possibility of divorce prior to a marriage seems like an uncomfortable discussion, the unfortunate reality is that in the United States, approximately half of marriages ultimately end in divorce.

When a high-net worth divorce between a celebrity or wealthy couple occurs, a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement could serve the spouses well in the dissolution process. While it may not be an easy step to take, it might be an appropriate one. Whether you are about to get married or already married, a legal agreement between spouses could provide much protection with regards to assets and property. Moreover, it could make a very difficult situation much easier.
